She spoke 14 languages, corresponded with scholars across the world and was the first woman to (secretly) attend university: Anna Maria von Schurman. Ever heard of her? Probably not. And there are many more women in Utrecht who remain rather anonymous but deserve more attention. Think of the brave Trijn van Leemput, who roused the people of Utrecht to demolish the hated ‘Vredenborch’ fortress. Or the erudite Belle van Zuylen (‘I have no talent for submission’). Or the pious Sister Bertken, who had herself immured within a church. Join me on a tour and pay these women the tribute that they still so heartily deserve!

A ‘Women in Utrecht’ tour takes at most 1.5 hours.
